The 2008-W $50 Platinum Eagle is a huge sleeper coin in my personal opinion. This coin currently holds the lowest mintage for any regular issue Modern coin ever struck by the U.S. Mint. With a mintage of 2,253 coins struck, it will be probably be many, many years before any other coin has a mintage this small.
If it weren’t for the 1915 Pan-Pac $50 coins, the 2006-W $50 Uncirculated Platinum Eagle would also have a lower mintage than any other mint state 20th century coin which has ever been produced by the U.S. Mint. Besides having a low mintage, the coins are very hard to come by as they hardly ever become available in the coin market.
