In 2008 the Mint struck three different types of Platinum Eagle coins. First it struck the regular Mint State coins, then the Proof coins and finally it struck a special Burnished Uncirculated version with a W mint mark. In the end, this coin turned out to have one of the lowest mintages in the series. However, the $50 2008-W Mint State Platinum Eagle still holds the record as the lowest mintage in the entire Platinum Eagle series as only 2,253 coins were struck.
