Obverse 4. UE. UE. C. C. RT apart with bases about even. T shows traces of repunching. Plain dot on upright of Y. No center dot. Three fused dentils left of the eighth star.
Reverse D. NR. SPR. NC. NC. In STATES, E is nearer to T than tos.
Die states: I. Perfect obverse die. Clear dentils. Faint reverse clash mark right of (N)T. Smith (1985A) state 1.
II. Obverse dentils are less clear (die wear) with a gap between the rim and dentils at the upper left. Clash marks behind the head. Reverse has at least four weak sets of clash marks right of (N)E and (N)T. Raised ridge at dentil tips above ES OF AM. Smith (1985A) state 2.
III Dies reground to remove clash marks. Forelock and lowest curl are weak, most of interior of the ear is gone, tail of R is attenuated, and right arm of Y is very thin.
IV. Dentils crumbling opposite second to sixth stars. Equivalents: Proskey 3. Doughty 213. McGirk 3A.

Remarks: On lighter strikings leaf point below D is between positions PC and NR, i.e. between inner curve and center of curves; leaf point at F is below left edge of the upright.
