Foster, Charles W. Historical Arrangement of United States Commemorative Coins. Rochester, New York: Rochester Museum of Arts and Sciences, 1936. Guide Bulletin No.4 of the Rochester Museum. Foster, curator of the collection of the American Numismatic Association at the time, created a monograph describing the historical background of various commemorative issues and used coins to illustrate various periods of American history includingthe period of discovery, colonization, territorial expansion, etc. A rarity scale was given, from R-1 (300,000 or more coins released or sold to the public) to R-15 (1 to 600 coins). Historical notes were furnished by Nita M. Feldman.
