CoinFacts Narrative Update
The 1996-W Roosevelt Dime was the first United States 10 cent piece to carry a "W" mintmark. These coins were produced at the West Point Mint to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Roosevelt Dime series. The coins were only sold as part of a special 11-coin mint set released in 1996 and were never officially distributed into circulation. Read more.
PCGS Set Registry Update
On February 3, 1954, Queen Elizabeth II and the royal family arrived in Sydney, Australia, to a spectacular display of fireworks. This special journey, dubbed "The Royal Visit," had been planned in advance with much anticipation. It was so popular an event that an official royal visit souvenir exercise book was distributed to school children by the Department of Education in Australia. The Royal Visit toured the country, reaching 57 towns and cities in a span of 58 days. Queen Elizabeth II would return to Australia another 15 times. Australia commemorated this auspicious occasion by minting The Royal Visit Florin, as seen above. This coin is part of the 1954 Australian Year Set that has recently been listed by PCGS.
Additional sets from various countries have been added, so please feel free to browse the PCGS Set Registry when you have a chance and you may find there is a set for almost anyone to build.
