The U.S. Mint returned to striking Proof Coins in 1936 after a 20 year hiatus. After experimenting with matte finishes in the mid-1910s, the new 1936 Proofs bore brilliant, mirrorlike surfaces and were struck in greater quantity than the earlier pre-WWI issues. The 1936 and 1937 sets are great ones containing three obsolete designs; the Buffalo Nickel, Mercury Dime and the Walking Liberty Half. Seeing these popular series in gem Proof condition never fails to provide a thrill, even to the more experienced numismatist. A PR67 set is possible though the Cent is very rare in that grade. A few PR68s also exist but be prepared to pay plenty if you want one.
