About This Set:
From the Experts at PCGS
The Eliasberg collection of New Orleans Mint gold is one of the finest ever assembled. The set is 100% complete and includes some very high quality pieces. The earlier issues are mostly average quality, and that’s probably a statement as to how rare the early New Orleans Mint gold coins are in Mint State condition. Among the earlier issues, the Eliasberg set did have an 1840-O $2-1/2 in MS64, 1843-O large letters $5 in MS63, 1845-O $10 in MS63, 1846-O $10 in MS64, 1850-O $10 in amazing MS65, and the very rare 1860-O $20 in MS62. The Eliasberg late dates included some off-the-charts miracle coins that had been purchased by John Clapp directly from the New Orleans Mint in the year of issue, including an 1897-O $10 in MS67, 1899-O $10 in MS68, 1901-O $10 in MS67, 1903-O $10 in MS66, 1904-O $10 in MS66, and a 1906-O $10 in MS67. The two ultra rarities of the New Orleans Mint gold series, the 1854-O $20 and 1856-O $20 are both AU55.
