New Orleans -- famous for Mardi Gras, the French Quarter, Cajun cooking, and jazz --was also home to an important branch of the United States mint from 1838 to 1909. In 1839, this Southern facility produced its first gold coins, a small mintage of quarter eagles. Although much of its focus was on the production of silver coins, the New Orleans mint produced its fair share of gold coins in a variety of types and denominations. Rarities include the 1883-O $10, 1854-O $20 and 1856-O $20 (not counted are the 50 1841-O half eagles that were reported, but which have never been seen). Your challenge is to complete the set, then the fun comes in the upgrading.
