Late in 1979, the border of the Susan B. Anthony Dollar was redesigned and widened to give the coin a better appearance. This resulted in two varieties for the 1979-P Dollar, with one being the "Narrow Rim" variety and the other known as the "Wide Rim" variety. Read more.
PCGS Set Registry Update
The area of New South Wales, Australia, was settled by British captain of the HMS Sirius Arthur Philips in 1786. He was sent by the British Crown to set up an agricultural camp with British convicts. Official British settlements in Australia began on January 22, 1788, when a fleet of 11 ships carried additional convicts to New South Wales (NSW). From 1788 to 1866, Australia served as a British penal colony that imprisoned over 160,000 convicts. Coinage from Great Britain and other countries had circulated within the country before Australia minted its own currency. The first coins issued in Australia had the effigy of Queen Victoria I and were minted in 1855 under the British Crown. Victoria I ruled for many decades before passing away on January 22, 1901; her son Edward became king of England the same day. Edward VII was coronated on August 9, 1902, and his effigy could then be used for coinage of Great Britain and its colonies like Australia. The 1902 sovereign struck at the Perth Mint is pictured and three other coins are part of the new PCGS Set Registry listing titled 1902 Australian Gold Year Set.
