CoinFacts Narrative Update
The 2016-W Standing Liberty Gold Quarter originally went on sale on September 8, 2016. The coins were well received by collectors, dealers, and the general public. In the secondary market, there were several dealers trying to buy them in large quantities, even offering premiums ranging from about $50 to $100 per coin over the U.S. Mint issue price. However, on September 21, the U.S. Mint threw a curve ball when it raised the household ordering limit from one coin per household to an unlimited ordering limit. Read more.
PCGS Set Registry Update
History is filled with experiences galore. From past experience, humanity may be able to refine judgement and sometimes make the most difficult decisions possible, like the act of declaring war. On April 12, 1861, the American Civil War began due to tensions between the Union (the North) and a faction known as the Confederates (the South). The subject of slavery was at the center of this war, and Abraham Lincoln was elected the 16th president of the United States amid these critical struggles. One of his promises to the people if elected as president was to abolish slavery. On January 1, 1863, Lincoln introduced the Emancipation Proclamation, which freed enslaved individuals in Confederate states, paving the way to free all enslaved peoples within the United States. Before this was possible, tensions had mounted on both sides of the North and the South. Many skirmishes ensued because of differing views on the subject of slavery. The Battle of Gettysburg began in the namesake Pennsylvania town on July 1, 1863, and ended two days on July 3. Between these dates, over 50,000 people died, and this was the most horrific battle of them all. The North had won in Gettysburg, but the Civil War did not end until April 9, 1865. This coin shown above is part of the recently listed Tuvalu Famous Battles of History $1 Silver, Proof (2009) for collectors to consider building. Many wars have been throughout time, and some of these battles have been commemorated within this coin set.
