The Early Quarter Dollars of the United States

Acknowledgements

Many hands were instrumental in readying this manuscript for publication. All are deserving of gratitude, but certain individuals and institutions stand out from the rest.

Jules Reiver not only supplied photographs of varieties not originally catalogued by Browning, but also helped update unlisted ones and their discoverers. Michael Hodder spent much effort coordinating the pages. Robert W. Miller, Sr., kindly supplied information regarding rarity ratings and individual Condition Census rosters appear at the end of each variety's listing. The American Numismatic Society, Kevin Lipton, and Hugh Sconyers provided additional illustrations.

The Bowers and Merena Graphics Department (Jennifer Meers, Roberta French, Lee Blythe Lilljedahl, Linda Heilig, William Winter, and Jennifer Rose) tirelessly worked with the manuscript and illustrations and have produced a fine volume. Mark Borckardt, Bowers and Merena senior numismatist, provided final technical review.

Others who deserved special mention here include: Mark Auerbach, John Dannreuther, Aram Haroutunian, Fred Lake, P. Scott Rubin, and the late Abe Kosoff.

Finally, special thanks to Mr. George F. Kolbe, numismatic bibliophile and friend, whose inspiration and assistance were essential to the completion of this happy task. It was George who made many of the preliminary arrangements for this book and who suggested we publish it.
