The U.S. Mint began offering Proof coins to the general public for the first time in 1859. As a result, mintages for the Proofs in this set are considerably higher than for any of the earlier years, making it a lot easier to complete and enjoy. Still, Gem and better examples are very scarce, adding to the fun and excitement of the chase. Mintages range from 470-1,000 coins, yet they are still very affordable today. Though tiny, these small silver coins have BIG appeal.
