This set is a combination of the popular proof Three Cent nickels and their not so popular circulation strike counterparts. There are numerous problems with poor strikes, subdued luster, heavily clashed dies and other negative characteristics found in the circulation strike series. A complete set of gem quality is a challenge, indeed! Despite significantly lower mintages in proof, there are far more high-quality issues on the market than the circulation strikes. The 1865 and 1877 are significantly more expensive than the other issues.
