With an Indian Cent, Liberty Nickel and three Barber silver coins, the 1907 Proof Set is typical of the period from 1892-1908. The country was in recession in 1907-08, so mintages for this year are slightly below average for the era. Survival rates today though are similar to other issues in the series so this set presents no unusual difficulty. The Proof gold for 1907 was of the old "Liberty" design. Although St. Gauden's new designs (the Indian Eagle and the Double Eagle that bears his name) had been released later that year, regular Proof issues of these types did not begin until the following year (1908).
