Morgan Dollars Top 100 plus Hot 50 VAM Set, Circulation Strikes (1878-1921)

Along with early Large Cents (Sheldon) and Bust Half Dollars (Overton), Morgan Dollars are among the most popular coins to collect by die Variety. The "bible" for Morgan varieties is the Comprehensive Catalog and Encyclopedia of Morgan & Peace Dollars by Leroy C. Van Allen and A. George Mallis, also known as the VAM book. Because there have been so many varieties identified (around 2,000), authors Michael Fey and Jeff Oxman selected the 100 most important, rarest, and/or most readily discernible varieties. Several years later, Oxman published a supplemental list of the next most important 50 varieties. The keys to this set will likely only be known to those interested this fascinating field, but they include such rarities as the 1878 8TF VAM 14.11 Wild Eye and the 1878 7/8TF Weak VAM 44 Trpl Blossoms.
