1832 Mint Set with Gold

The 1832 Mint set is a straightforward six-piece set, consisting of a Half Cent, Cent, Half Dime, Dime, Quarter and Half. It would be the first in a series of four sets, all similar, and all containing common dates for the era. These are great little sets to build – very representative for the period and quite affordable even in XF/AU condition. Unfortunately, that affordability ends when you get to the gold, for virtually all gold of the 1820s and early 1830s fell victim to melting pot, and nearly 100% of the original mintages are no longer with us. Fewer than fifty 1832 Half Eagles have survived, and they command healthy five-figure prices in circulated grades and low six figure prices in the mid Mint State grades.
