1818 Mint Set with Gold

Due to the sporadic nature of the mint's activities in the early years, many of the mints sets from this period are quite small. 1818 is another such year, as no Half Cents, Half Dimes, Dimes or Dollar coins were struck. For the copper and silver portion, only the Cent, Quarter and Half Dollar were coined, and all are common dates for their respective series. This three-piece set can be completed with relatively little expense or effort. The only gold coin made this year was the Half Eagle, and it is one of the more "affordable" dates in the series. None are cheap, as nearly all struck during this period (and the ensuing 15 years) were melted shortly after they were struck.
