About This Set: Born 14 October Strafford, Strafford, New Hampshire, USA; married Emily Rowe (1803-1974) 1 January 1824 New Haven, Addison, Vermont, USA; died 9 June Starksboro, Addison, Vermont, USA.

The 1797 Mint Set is one of the more "complete" sets for the period, lacking only the Quarter for a "full run" of denominations. However the Half Dollar, being of the exceedingly tough "Small Eagle Reverse" type, makes this set quite difficult to complete. Even the lowest quality example will require a $20,000+ expenditure, and the finest examples of this date surpass $1 million! Anything decent, figure on around $75,000. The remaining coins in the set, while far more affordable, are not easy to find in a pleasing, high grade condition. Poor planchets, primitive machinery and heavy use have left very few well struck, attractive examples on today's market.
