1794 Mint Set

Silver coinage appeared this year - as the mint's first Half Dimes, Half Dollars and Dollars were struck. As first year of issue, all enjoy strong demand from the collector community and once cannot go wrong purchasing nice, attractive, problem-free examples of these coins. Only 1,758 Dollar coins were struck this first year, and with just under 10% surviving, demand far exceeds supply making virtually any example worth at least six figures. A special striking of this coin currently holds the record for the highest priced U.S. coin, selling in 2013 for just over $10 million. Most of the Mint's efforts this year went into striking nearly one million cents, and with nearly 60 collectible varieties plus more "NC" (non-collectible) varieties identified, this particular issue remains one of the most popular with experienced numismatists.
