Liberty Head $20 Gold Type 2 Basic Set, Circulation Strikes (1866-1876)

The Type Two $20 added the motto "In God We Trust" above the eagle on the reverse, but retained the earlier "TWENTY D." valuation at the bottom. For this set, it is the early Carson City issues that will provide he challenge. In particular, the first issue (1870-CC) is a major rarity, and runs well into six figures in higher circulated grades. None are known in Mint State. Also near the top of the list, though not nearly as rare as the 1870, is the 1871-CC. PCGS has graded one MS example, although other services have graded additional higher Mint State pieces.
