The 24kt Gold 2014-W Proof Kennedy Half Dollars were first sold by the U.S. Mint on August 05, 2014. The coin was struck to commemorate the 50th Anniversary of the Kennedy Half Dollar. Each coin is composed of 99.99% pure gold and contains about ¾ of an ounce of gold. The design of the coin has been restored, to more closely resemble the original design issued in the 1964 Kennedy Half Dollars. The additional other coins issued to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the Kennedy Half Dollar also depict the new and restored design.

When the Gold 2014-W Proof Kennedy Half Dollars first went on sale, the U.S. Mint set ordering restrictions and only allowed customers to order 5 coins per household, if ordering through the U.S. Mint website or over the phone. The U.S. Mint also set up at different locations to sell the coins and customers who bought the coins at these locations in person, were only allowed to purchase 1 coin per person, per day. The opening issue price by the U.S. Mint was set at $1,240 for each coin.

Overall, the 24k Gold 2014-W Proof Kennedy Half Dollars proved to be a huge success for both the collectors and the U.S. Mint.
