The 2008-P Bald Eagle Proof Commemorative Silver Dollar was struck to commemorate the sucesful recovery of the Bald Eagles in the United States. At one time it was estimtaed that there were 100,000 nesting pairs of Bald Eagles in the United Staes but in the 1960's it was estimataed that as few as 400 nesting pairs existed due to poaching, habitat destruction and other causes.

Obverse: The obverse features a large and beautiful bald eagle in flgith with it's wings widely spread while flying through the sky. Obverse has the inscriptions, "Liberty In God We Trust" and "2008."

Reverse:The reverse of the coins feratures the American Seal used from 1782-1841. The seal shows a Bald Eagle holding a banner which indicates, E Pluribus Unum." The revsrs has the inscriptions, "unirted Stetes of America" and "One Dollar."
