Owner's Comments

[RG-017]* 2004 Alderney Silver ₤5 Florence Nightingale PR69DCAM { PCGS-5 }. Florence Nightingale appears with a halo-like adornment and is proclaimed “Lady with the Lamp.” This is the proof silver commemorative version from one of the Channel Islands and devices are nicely frosted. Florence became famous as the nurse holding a lantern providing comfort to soldiers during the Crimean War on this near-perfect gem. A total of 25,000 pieces were struck in silver, while copper-nickel ₤5 coins were also struck. This commemorative was issued 150 years after Florence Nightingale brought a team of 38 volunteer nurses to assist soldiers wounded in this horrific conflict captured in verse in “The Charge of the Light Brigade” by Alfred Tennyson. * Number 17 in Ron Guth’s book “100 Greatest Women on Coins.”
