The 2001-P Capitol Visitor Commemorative Half Dollar was issued to commemorate the convening of the Capitol Building in 1800. It was also the first commemorative Half Dollar that had been issued in a 5 year hiatus. The Mint struck a Half Dollar and Dollar coin commemorating the Capitol Building. Both these denominations were struck in an Uncirculated and a Proof format.
