2001 $1 Silver Eagle MS69 Certification #71901811, PCGS #9954

The mintage of the 2001 $1 Silver Eagle is substantially larger than all of the dates from the 1990s, but a mere fraction of the mintage of the 2010 Silver Eagle.  Much of this disparity has to do with the furor over silver that took place in the late 2000s, but that also means that demand has increased for all dates in this series.

High grade examples are the norm for this date, but MS70 examples are exceedingly rare as a percentage of the total population.  True MS-70, spot-free examples of this date seem to be a good value in light of their rarity.

In 2001 the U.S. Mint offered the Uncirculated Silver Eagle as well as the regular Proof Silver Eagle for the year. The 2001 Uncirculated Eagles had a small decline in sales, as the Mint sold about 200,000 coins less than it did in the year 2000.

Most 2001 Uncirculated Silver Eagles come in really nice condition grading about MS68-MS69 quality. While MS70 examples are very hard to come by.
