This is the second year in which the Mint produced the $10 Uncirculated Platinum Eagles. The mintage of the 1998 $10 Platinum Eagle was at 39,525 or significantly lower than the previous year, since the 1997 $10 Platinum Eagle had a mintage of 70,250. However, the mintage for the 2008 was by no means low for the series as there are coins in the series in the same denomination which have mintages lower than 15,000. For example, the 2006 has a mintage of 11,001.

The 1998 Platinum Eagle is considered a common date in the series. Most coins that are available are in MS68-MS69 condition with very few being graded MS70.
