1954 Capital Holder Set. This Quarter Dollar is just as beautiful as the Franklin Half Dollar. Someone must have been drunk while grading this after lunch or their glasses were fogged up. This leaves myself as a customer questioning PCGS’s capabilities to continue providing a fair and balanced grading system. After all the customer is paying for this one way or another out of pocket while losing the overall cost of such a coin. This coin looks just as good if not better than the Franklin Half Dollar. Losing faith in PCGS as a grading company while I pay each year to be a member? I love my PCGS coins but don’t insult my intelligence. Especially when you can’t grade the Vietnamese coin I sent and you don’t recognize it and still charge me for grading or should I say none grade? Any argument is frivolous when it comes to this company. Sending anything back for regrade is just more cost and nothing is guaranteed when it comes to upgrade or downgrade. PCGS holds all the cards over collectors and complaining means nothing to them. They simply don’t care!

The proof Washington Quarter series began in 1950 and quarters from this year had a mintage of about 51,000. As the years went on mintages increased significantly year by year. By 1954 the Mint struck a little over 233,000 proof quarters, making it a more common issue if compared to the first years that Washington Quarters were produced. By the early 1960's the Mint started producing over 3 million coins each year, making proof Washington quarters much more common.

The 1954 Proof Washington Quarter is not considered scarce but it is very popular amongst Washington Silver Quarter collectors. Most examples are easily affordable, unless collectors want an example in high grades with Cameo or Deep Cameo contrast. If so, then expect to pay a very significant premium.
