This is the first year off issue for the Proof Franklin Half Dollar. The 1950 Proof has the lowest mintage in the entire Proof Franklin Half Dollar series. This date is very scarce with Cameo and Deep cameo surfaces. Also, it is the most difficult Proof Franklin Half Dollar to find with Cameo and Proof Deep Cameo surfaces in the whole series.

Deep Cameo: With Deep Cameo surfaces the 1950 Proof Franklin Half is truly scarce with no more 10 examples in existence.

In 1950, the U.S. Mint resumed production of Proof coins, having completed the striking of war medals for distribution during and after World War II.  Interest in the new Proof sets was much higher than it had been in 1942, and the U.S. economy had improved dramatically, thus the mintage of the 1950 Proof Set exceeded 50,000 units, surpassing all previous records.

Most Proof 1950 Half Dollars have a brilliant finish.  Less than one-tenth of the certified examples have a Cameo finish, and only a small handful have a Deep Cameo Finish.
