There are only three major Doubled Dies in the entire circulation strike Jefferson Nickel series. They are the 1939 Doubled Die Reverse, 1943 Doubled Die Obverse and the 1945 Doubled Die Reverse.

The 1939 Doubled Die Reverse is the most dramatic of the three. The doubling is mostly evident on the words, FIVE CENTS, the doubling is shifted towards the South East and can be seen with the naked eye. The word MONTICELLO is also doubled with the doubling shifted towards the East and just barely to the South.

There are possibly 1,000 – 1,500 in existence in all grades combined. Most examples are probably in lower circulated grades of VF and under.

XF: In grades of XF there are probably about 100 examples available.

AU: In grades of AU and higher there are probably about 150 – 200 examples available.

Uncirculated: In all Uncirculated grades there a probably about 150 examples that exist, with most of them being in the MS64 and MS65 grade.

MS64: In MS64 grade there are probably about 50 – 60 examples in existence.

MS65: In MS65 grade there are probably about 60 examples in existence.

MS66: In MS66 grade there are probably about 30 -35 examples that exist.

MS67: In MS67 grade there are probably about 5 examples or less that exist with none being finer.
