The 1904-S Half Dollar is one of the stars of the Barber Half Dollar series.  It has one of the smallest populations of certified Mint State coins.  On the other hand, it has a very large population of circulated coins, primarily because it is such a rare and in-demand date.  Mint State examples appear most frequently in MS64 and, above that, the populations drop off dramatically.  On the positive side, there are a couple of exceptional, superb examples, including the Price-Hugon PCGS MS67 that was purchased directly from the San Francisco Mint in the year of issue.  Another fabulous example is the Norweb-Shireman PCGS MS67.  The third PCGS MS67 is a colorful example formerly of the James A. Stack and Dr. Duckor Collections.

With the exception of the 1892-O Micro O variety, the 1904-S Barber Half Dollar is by far the rarest issue of the series in terms of overall mint state rarity. In Gem condition, this issue is extremely rare...
