The 1898-S is a very common date. In fact, it is the second most common S-Mint Double Eagle after the 1904-S and it ranks as one of the eight or ten commonest issues in the entire Liberty Head series. It is readily obtainable in any condition up to choice uncirculated. Gems are rather scarce but they are still available with some regularity. Only the collector who requires a superb or "perfect" coin will have trouble finding an 1898-S that suits him.PCGS #
