This date is one of the most common dates in the series. It is easy to obtain in any condition.

One of the counterfeit 1885 Half Eagles can be identified by the following: 1) depression on the upper serif of the 5 (on the left, just above the juncture of the stand and the serif); 2) raised spikes coming out from some of the denticles; and 3) depression below and on the right center of the R of AMERICA.
