The 1881 Proof Indian Cent is one of the most common dates in the Proof Indian Cent series. It has a mintage of over 3,500 examples struck. Most of the lower mintage coins in the series have mintages under 1,000, while the higher mintages are in the 2,000 mintage or higher range.
It is not difficult to find examples of this date in common grades, as many of them were saved over the years. Only in PR66 or higher is when they become scarce. With the Red color designation, they are much scarcer in PR66. In PR67 they're almost unknown. With the Cameo designation there are very few known in all grades combined.
