1879-S $5 MS62 Certification #82447868, PCGS #8350
Expert Comments
David Akers (1975/88)
The 1879-S is more common than the 1878-S but it still should not be considered a "common date" gold coin, particularly in strictly uncirculated condition. Circulated examples are easily obtained but full mint state specimens are very scarce and gems are rare.
