1876 20C PR66 Certification #34577951, PCGS #5304
Owner's Comments
This is an unquestionable SUPER HIGH END GEM! We admit, we did resubmit it seeking a +. PCGS said no, but we unhesitatingly grade the coin a PR66+. This is NOT your typical dull or drab piece!
Exceptional deep mirrors beam vividly from all over. The mirrors are the ultimate in clarity and cleanliness. We do NOT see why PCGS did not + this coin. When you twirl the coin, the mirrors have that liquid rolling "watery" look. Both sides were bathed by some of Mother Natures BEST work. Moderate shades of blue/ green/violet/gold swirl all over. Miss Liberty and the details are thickly frosted and are fully struck. The eye appeal is absolutely heart pounding gorgeous!

The mintage of the Proof 1876 Twenty-Cent piece dropped to less than half that of the previous year, reflecting reduced demand for the coin in its second year. In spite of the reduced mintage, many of the coins were set aside by collectors, resulting in a strong Condition Census today, where PR-66 examples dominate. Non-Cameo Proofs appear to be the norm for this date, though there are undoubtedly some Cameos and Deep Cameos that need reclassification, since PCGS did not recognize CAMs and DCAMs until later in its existence. Nonetheless, Cameo examples are scarce and Deep Cameos are downright rare. The technically finest 1876 Twenty-Cent piece certified by PCGS is a single PR67CAM.
