Proof 1872 Half Dollars are very much like the Proof 1871 Half Dollars. Their mintages are similar, their grade distributions are similar, and the ratios of Brilliant, Cameo, and Deep Cameo examples is similar. Simply put, if you want a Proof 1872 Half Dollar, you will find your quest to be quite achievable, the grades you will encounter the most frequently will be PR63 and PR64, you may run across scores of Cameos, and you will rarely ever see a Deep Cameo. All in all, this date represents good value for the type because it is simultaneously scarce and affordable.
