In 1872, the Philadelphia Mint produced 950 Proof Silver Dollars, a number similar to those of the previous several years. Fortunately for collectors, numerous examples survive in great, collectible grades such as PR63 and PR64, plus a small number of high-grade examples exist to satisfy quality-conscious buyers. On the very highest end, this is one of the few dates in the series with a representative at the PR67 level.
Cameo and Deep Cameo examples exist of this date, but they are much scarcer than the non-Cameo versions. Deep Cameo contrast appears on fewer than five percent of all 1872 Proof Silver Dollars.
