The 1860-O Half Dollar is a relatively common date. In fact, it has the largest mintage of any 1860 Half Dollar-- by far. This means that collectors should have no problem finding an example of this date in virtually any grade. Uncirculated examples tend to be very nice (MS64 is the most frequently-seen grade) and over a dozen Gem and better examples exist. The strike on this date is usually very strong in the centers but can often be weak on the obverse stars. The luster tends to be frosty and creamy. All in all,, the 1860-O Half Dollar is an excellent choice for type purposes.
