1850 1/2C, BN MS64BN Certification #21071771, PCGS #1221
Owner's Comments
38,912 minted and CAC Approved. R-2. C-1; DS-1.0. Manley Die State 1.0, the only die state in the Manley reference described as "perfect dies." This coin has lustrous olive-brown surfaces with splashes of bluish toning and traces of original mint red. From The Red Headed Copper Collection (Heritage 8/9/2018), and later from the Don Kelley Collection (Indian Cents 8/20/23). This is the key coin for the Braided Hair Half Cent series.

The 1850 Half Cent has a mintage similar to that of the 1849, but is actually slightly scarcer in terms of the number of examples that have been certified by PCGS. Likewise, Mint State examples are less abundant, with most appearing in the MS-63 grade. In terms of technical condition, the finest example is a PCGS MS-6BN, though the MS64RD might be more valuable. Very few 1850 Half Cents have enough original color to qualify for the Red-Brown designation. Full Red examples are exceedingly rare.
