The 1842-O Half Dollar, Medium Date, Reverse of 1842 has a fairly hefty mintage of 754,000 coins. In most circulated grades, this date is very common. At the MS60, the population drops off and the price jumps to approximately double that of a common date. Mint State examples, which are usually MS63 to MS64, are quite scarce. The best example is a PCGS MS65 from the celebrated Eugene H. Gardner collection.
