The 1840 is rare and underrated in all grades, much like the 1839 to which it compares very favorably with respect to overall rarity. Most available specimens are in the VF to EF range and strictly uncirculated examples are very rare. Even strictly graded AU coins are seldom available. Varieties are known with broad mill border and with narrow mill.PCGS #
