1824/2 10C JR-1 MS66 Certification #-60081, PCGS #38805

Ron Guth

The JR-1 1824/2 Dime is a popular variety because of the obvious overdating of the last digit, where remnants of a 2 are clearly visible underneath the 4.  This was once considered a scarce variety but has been downgraded in recent years to common (R-2).  Numerous Mint State examples exist, including at least three MS66 specimens (two of which, amazingly, were in the D. Brent Pogue Collection).  The lowest grade in the PCGS CoinFacts Condition Census is an MS64.

Most 1824/2 JR-1 Dimes show a strong strike at the dentils and stars, but a frequent complaint seen in catalog descriptions is softness on some of the central details.
