1813 1C, BN VF25BN Certification #41466478, PCGS #1570
Expert Comments
Ron Guth
The 1813 Large Cent has the fourth lowest mintage of the Classic Head series. Two die varieties comprise the entire mintage and both are common, making it very easy for collectors to obtain an example of this date. Problem-free examples with glossy surfaces are the most desirable, but also the most difficult to find. Mint State examples are scarce, especially in MS-63 and above. As of October 2011, the finest example certified by PCGS is a pair of MS-65s. Surprisingly, no Red-Brown or Red examples have been certified by PCGS.
