This set is not as long as it might appear at first because no Proofs were struck in 26 of the 50 years that this collection spans. The coins of 1909 through 1916 were issued in the Matte Proof format, and include the especially challenging 1909 V.D.B. and 1916. The series started up again in 1936 with both a Satin Finish and a Brilliant Proof. After a hiatus from 1943 through 1949 the Proofs were issued once again from 1950 through 1958, and then the reverse "wheat back" design was changed.
