U.S. Three Cents Complete Basic Set, Circulation Strikes and Proof (1851-1889)

When the proofs are included with the circulation strike three cent pieces, you have a real challenge. As most know, proof coins prior to the end of the 1850s were not sold directly to the public, and as such are rare to say the least. In particular, the 1854 and 1855 three cent silver proofs are significant rarities and even locating one is not easy. There are three proof-only issues in the three cent nickel series, but aside from the 1877, they should not be too difficult.
