2024 PCGS Set Registry Awards

It’s that time of the year for us to announce the PCGS Set Registry Award winners. The competition was brisk as ever, and we awarded more winners than last year. Our members had built an impressive array of sets across hundreds and hundreds of set categories by the time the awards deadline of June 28, 2024, came around. Our set count grew by about 8% over last year, totaling a little more than 178,000 sets. This year, our judges selected more than 700+ Gold, Platinum, and 10 Year winners. The Best of Registry Award category also continues its growth as well with thousands of members being acknowledged for their efforts. Collectors from all over the world have been recognized, and possibly one of your sets won an award this year as well! 

When the PCGS Set Registry came online in February 2001, barely more than 300 sets had been listed by members. Our platform has been the pioneer for the Set Registry concept, which we have further improved on and innovated over the years thanks to enthusiastic member feedback. The PCGS Set Registry is a powerful inventory-management tool built for coin collectors of all levels. In the Set Registry you can track your collection with images, costs, market prices, and populations in a secure, safe, and fun online environment. We have welcomed members to join our community, and coins that were once seen by few have now been graciously shared for all to view. For example, the finest 1795 Draped Bust Dollar graded PCGS MS66 can be viewed, as can a splendid PCGS PR64DCAM 1839 5 Pound Una and the Lion – coins that for many would be a dream to own. These world-class coins and many others can be viewed with our unsurpassed, industry-leading PCGS TrueView imagery.   

Yet, for all the multi-figure rarities on the PCGS Set Registry, we ensure our unrivaled collecting platform is truly accessible to and inclusive of all kinds of coin collections. Therefore, PCGS was the first company to introduce the Everyman Collections in 2009 so that collectors with smaller budgets could also compete. We offer a diverse number of categories within the PCGS Set Registry, including those catering toward young numismatists, low-ball collectors, and those with lower- and mid-tier uncirculated coins (which compete in the Everyman Mint State categories). We’re also the only platform to offer sets with cryptocurrency for our members to display. 

No matter what coins you may have in your collection, the PCGS Set Registry is a place for everyone and anyone who wants to collect more, achieve more, and enjoy more. And that our members are doing, to the tune of a cumulative 2.9 million coins across all sets in the PCGS Set Registry. Some of our members have been with us since the beginning, while others came onboard just a few days ago. Regardless of when you joined, our community continues to prosper, and we are most appreciative of your efforts. Our success has been because of you, the collector!

Gold is awarded to honor sets that are the best in their category and have been selected by our judging committee to be recognized for outstanding set building. The completeness and quality of each of these sets deserves recognition. Many of these sets have won in the past and some are new recipients of the gold award. Each of the following sets are truly impressive and worthy of the prestige of the gold award.

While broadly pursued by many, the sheer cost and effort involved in building this complete set is extraordinary. In terms of cost and time involved, this is an amazing feat by High Desert.

A complete U.S. type set is always a thing of beauty and especially when the coins are of top-quality. The eye appeal seen here in this multi-award-winning assemblage by D.L. Hansen is amazing!

Here's a truly classic type of U.S. collection, one that really captures the diversity of the U.S. copper realm from its golden era. This High Desert set has achieved many high marks over the years, and for good reason. It's simply fantastic in quality and scope.

This gold type set is fascinating to view and perhaps even more so appealing upon realizing this is not part of a public museum exhibit. This is a private collection, and one of the very finest such assemblages imaginable, let alone actual. This is a cool set with some great pieces, though the standout in the opinion of this observer is the absolutely gorgeous 1793 Chain AMERI. cent in XF40BN.

This is the large cent variety set against which all other such sets both aspiring and approaching completion are measured. It's hard to imagine such a diverse cabinet of early copper could be assembled, though of course it is seen here before our very eyes, and in grades that are virtually (or in many cases actually) unbeatable. Astounding!

Exceptional set of all Wheat ear reverse Proof Lincoln Cent issues.

The Alterity Collection - Lincoln Cents Complete Variety Set, Circulation Strikes and Proof (1909-Present)
This is an immense set built around a core of the circulation strikes and festooned with an absolutely stunning diversity of varieties -- a feast for the eyes of any Lincoln Cent collector who appreciates excellence.

Legal Two Cents - Shield Two Cents Complete Variety Set, Circulation Strikes (1864-1872)
The Two Cent series is a truly intriguing series of coins, short-lived in terms of production run but brimming with lots of amazing collecting opportunities for those who dive deeper into the series than just the regular-issue business strikes. The varieties are really something special, and in the grades we see here, this set is one of a kind.

This first year Gold award winner has completed the set 100%

The Greenbrier River Collection II - Shield Nickels with Major Varieties, Circulation Strikes (1866-1883)
An astonishing 14 coins are Top Pop and the set is 100% complete.

JDG Trust Collection - Buffalo Nickels Date Set, Circulation Strikes (1913-1938)
The date set of Buffalo Nickels is a good example of how a collector can get in on this tough series without breaking the bank, but the pocketbook clearly wasn't a consideration here. Each coin within the set is a stunner and this set is AWESOME!

There is one exceptional eye-appealing coin after another in this set. This is one of those sets that one can dream can owning within their lifetime. It may have taken this collector a lifetime to find all these coins and (Note that this award also includes 1 subset in this collection).

JDG Trust Collection - Buffalo Nickels Basic Short Set, Circulation Strikes (1934-1938)
The date set of Buffalo Nickels is a good example of how a collector can get in on this tough series without breaking the bank, but the pocketbook clearly wasn't a consideration here. Each coin within a stunner, this set is AWESOME!

Lovely and quite challenging set of early Half Dimes including the major varieties.

The Link Early American Silver Major Variety Set of Capped Bust Dimes - Capped Bust Dimes with Major Varieties, Circulation Strikes (1809-1837)
The Capped Bust Dime series offers a fantastic challenge and this set with the scarce varieties included poses numerous hurdles to overcome in completion. This set is incredible. (Note that this award also includes 2 subsets in this collection).

Jason Feldman - Liberty Seated Dimes with Major Varieties and 1873-CC No Arrows, Circulation Strikes and Proof (1837-1891)
The Liberty Seated Dime series presents challenges for its collectors unlike we see with many other series. But to stop there discounts the true complexity of this particular set, which is certainly the inclusion of the elusive 1873-CC No Arrows, not to mention a number of difficult varieties that we find here in top grades. (Note that this award also includes 2 subsets in this collection)

D. L. Hansen. Barber Dime Complete with 1894-S (1892-1916) - Barber Dimes with Major Varieties and 1894-S, Circulation Strikes and Proof (1892-1916)
We could just stop with the fact that this set includes the storied 1894-S Barber Dime and call it a day. But that's not the way D.L. Hansen sets roll -- they don't stop with "mere" rarity or story alone. They go all the way in checking off many other metrics, too, such as quality, completeness, and "WOW." And that's what this set does. It's the stuff of every Barber Dime collector's dreams. (Note that this award also includes 2 sub-sets in this collection)

The Mercury Dime remains a favorite with collectors, in part given its classic design but also because the series offers a nice mix of scarce dates and major varieties. This set has it all, and in Full Bands details to boot! Awesome! (Note that this award includes 4 sub-sets in this collection)

MERC MADNESS - Mercury Dimes FB with Major Varieties, Circulation Strikes and Proof (1916-1945)
The Mercury Dime remains a favorite with collectors, in part given its classic design but also because the series offers a nice mix of scarce dates and major varieties. This set has it all, and in Full Bands details to boot! Awesome! (Note that this award includes 1 sub-sets in this collection)

Hansin Collection Twenty Cent W/1876cc Circ. - Twenty Cents with 76-CC, Circulation Strikes (1875-1876)
The Twenty Cent series is one of the most enigmatic of all U.S. sets, and this complete assemblage of 'Double Dimes' including the ultra-rare 1876-CC is icing on the cake.

Three Sisters Collection - Draped Bust Quarters Die Variety Set by A.W. Browning, Circulation Strikes (1796-1807)
The Draped Bust Quarter kicks off the long-running workhorse denomination that contines to serve as the core of circulating coinage today. Even 225 years ago, the quarter saw extensive use, making well-worn specimens highly scarce. These pieces are truly impeccable -- and impeccably rare.

The Barber Quarter date set rambles some expansive territory in some challenging Mint State grades (remember, Barber Quarters start getting tough above Fine and difficult in XF or higher). Nice collection!

John Q. Little's Standing Liberty Quarter set is stunning -- absolutely stunning. It covers the entirety of the series PLUS the very difficult 1918/7-S variety in some amazing grades. A favorite of collectors, the Capped Bust Half Dollar series offers challenges aplenty due to the size of the series and the difficulty of many of the issues in the best grades.
