About This Set: This is one of the funnest sets around to collect. The coins are attractive and they honor one of the greatest of all American thinkers -- a top-rank educator, architect, political scientist, and violinist.

I started collecting these nickels as a 9-year old child -- and I still have my childhood set. I put them aside in 1950.

When I started collecting the Jefferson Nickels again as an adult, 48 years later, I soon gravitated to the full-steppers, as a metaphor for a well-struck reverse. And it’s the full-steppers that makes this series so hard and interesting.

If you collect these nickels, you know how frustrating it can be to search for a full stepper of a particular date. You’ll find 4.0 steps; 4.8 steps; 4.5 steps -- but never the darned 5.0. And then you look at a nickel slabbed as a full stepper, prepared to pay too much for the coin, and oooh, it’s close, but just doesn’t make it. And that difficulty is what makes the series so much fun.

I think the coins in this set DO make it. Enjoy!
