7 dates, for instance, have between 0 and 2 gems! 10 dates have no reds at all.
The three hardest dates are the 1914 Large S ... the 1916 Large S ... and the 1918-S Large S.
Of the three, the 1918-Large S large S is the "easiest." But I say "easiest" advisedly because the 1918 Large S is still incredibly difficult to find in unc. Indeed, because PCGS has only slabbed 5 uncs of this date; only 2 of which are gems. No reds.
Other key dates are the 1918-S (ordinary S) ... 1921 ... and 1920.
The series is filled with interesting varieties including the 1917/6 ... and the 1917/8 both of which are extremely rare ... The 1908 horned S (S/S) is scarce with the horns to the north and rare with the horns to the south.
There's also a 1908 S/S/S which is beautiful to look out because the tripling is so clear (it's like a combination of the horned S to the north and to the south).
Good luck!
